SCO JOIN HANDS WITH ASKARI BANK– S-PAISA PENSION ACCOUNT

  Special Communications Organization (SCO) has signed an agreement with Askari Bank, with a vision to promote financial inclusion and to provide Branchless Banking services in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB). The main purpose of the collaboration is to play a leading role in realizing SBP’s vision of broadening access to financial services and increasing financial inclusion.

          SCO has launched the ‘S-Paisa Pension Account’ facility through its Digital Financial Services “S-Paisa” under the national service initiative with the approval of the State Bank of Pakistan. This strategic alliance between AKBL and SCO aims to readily disburse pension to Army Personnel by providing Over-the-Counter (OTC) facility & pension Pay-Out solution by utilizing AKBL Digital Wallet along with the strong retail network of SCO in AJ&K and GB.

          The Agreement was signed by Khurshid Zafar- Chief Operating Officer, AKBL and Colonel Farhan Shahid Khan – Director Commercial Affairs, Special Communications Organization. Atif Riaz Bukhari, President Askari Bank, Omer Afzal, Acting Chief Digital officer, AKBL, Mr. Imran Sher – Project Director – Digital Financial Services, SCO and other senior officials from both organizations were also present at the ceremony.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Khurshid Zafar said, “Through this convergence of communication technology giant SCO with our AKBL’S digital banking wallet whilst adhering to SBP’s framework for financial inclusion, we aspire to provide widespread accessibility to our financial services. Aligned with our values of inclusivity and our vision for growth, this alliance will further assist us in evaluating the needs of our esteemed customer base and expanding our footprint.”

SCO AND HBL INTEROPERABLE MOBILE FINANCIAL SERVICES ASCO CONTINUES TO SCALE UP ITS FOOTPRINT IN AJ&K AND GB WITH “S PAISA PENSION ACCOUNT”

Special Communications Organization (SCO) has launched the ‘S-Paisa Pension Account’ facility through its Digital Financial Services “S-Paisa” under the national service initiative with the approval of the State Bank of Pakistan. Now with this new service, the pensioners of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will be able to receive their pension amount at their doorstep.

SCO has always been at the forefront of providing state-of-the-art digital solutions to its customers. Our ‘S-Paisa Pension Account’ is yet another step forward in this direction It should be noted that this service also includes support of HBL Connect which enabled us to provide OTC based Cash in & Cash out services, Biometric services for proof of life for pension accounts and dormant account activation, all backed up by ATMs.

S-Paisa Pension Account can be registered at any S-Paisa Shop (without any extra charge). For more information about S-Paisa Pension Account, one can contact the helpline at 111-726-726. It is hoped that this new facility will make it easier for urban and rural pensioners to manage their finance without looking for bank branches.

SCO AND HBL INTEROPERABLE MOBILE FINANCIAL SERVICES AGREEMENT

Special Communications Organization (SCO) has joined hands with Habib Bank Limited (HBL) for the Interoperable Mobile Financial Services (MFS) in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). In this regard, a contract signing ceremony was held between the two organizations. This collaboration is a step to jointly creating the required financial services ecosystem in the regions.

The contract signing ceremony was graced by Maj Gen Muhammad Shahid Sideeq, DG SCO and Chairman HBL, Mr. Sultan Ali Allana.

SCO is providing Digital Financial Services with the brand name of “S-Paisa” in AJ&K and GB since 2019. S-Paisa is exclusively disbursing cash for beneficiaries of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) in AJ&K and GB and also affected populations along the Line of control. This agreement will be the catalyst to extend the financial outreach and convenience to more than 6 million people of the region through state-of-the-art, convenient and secure branchless banking services. By virtue of this agreement, multiple services will be leveraged upon including Mobile Wallet App + USSD, SCOM Prepaid/ Post Paid Biller, AJ&K and GB Barkyaat Bill and Cash in-Cash out through agents, to fulfil the needs of banked as well as the unbanked population of AJ&K and GB.

Speaking at the ceremony, Maj General Muhammad Shahid Sideeq, DG SCO said, “This venture is an initiative of Digital transformation of communities. SCO is already contributing to the Financial Inclusion Strategy of SBP and trying to support process of digitalized and documented economy. With this collaboration, we hope to empower populace to manage their routine financial transactions using the Digital Services platform being extended by SCO and HBL. We are proud to be partners with HBL for this initiative, as it progresses our objective and allows us to reduce the current divide between the unbanked and banked population of the region. This initiative will also open the window for E-commerce activities by providing secure payment gateway.”

SCO, CELMORE AND INBOX INTENDS COOPERATING FOR TELECOM PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AND BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES IN AJ&K AND GB

Special Communications Organization (SCO) largest integrated network with multiple layers of backhaul connectivity in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB), Celmore Technologies (Pvt) Limited, an IT and Fiber manufacturing company and Inbox Business Technologies Ltd, a leading professional services company working in the information technology, digital infrastructure, and telecom industry has entered into an understanding for telecom professional services and business opportunities in AJ&K and GB.

The overall purpose of the MoU is to strengthen cooperation for mutual cooperation on WMS system and other potential opportunities required in digital transformation of society. SAMINA BAIG ALL SET TO START SCO SPONSORED K-2 EXPEDITION 2021

Appointed by the Special Communications Organization (SCO) as a Brand Ambassador, Samina Baig is ready to set off for her K-2 expedition on 26th of June, 2021. A native of Gilgit-Baltistan, Samina Baig is the first Muslim Pakistani woman to climb Mount Everest and the seven summits at a very young age of 21 years. Samina Baig has been engaged with the SCO for the past four years where she helps in promoting SCO initiatives in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

This expedition, which will mark Samina Baig as the first Pakistani woman to pitch Pakistan’s flag at the summit of 8,611 meters high peak, is sponsored and fully supported by the SCO. The goal behind this initiative is to promote women empowerment while raising awareness about global warming and climate change. Confident and excited to embark upon this journey which has been the ultimate dream for Samina Baig, she commented, “My spirits are high as I seek prayers of my well wishers for accomplishing this challenge. My sincere appreciation to SCO for installing BTS system at Concordia near Broad Peak and K-2 Base camp. SCO LAUNCHED ITS TRIPLE PLAY (INTERNET, TV AND PHONE) SERVICES IN GILGIT BALTISTAN

Samina Baig is a Pakistani high-altitude mountaineer. Born in Gilgit-Baltistan, at the age of 21, she became the first Muslim Pakistani woman to climb Mount Everest and the seven summits. Samina Baig is engaged with SCO for the last 4 years and is involved in promoting SCO initiatives in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

SCO recently agreed to support Samina Baig’s K2 expedition for June 2021. She will become the first Pakistani women to carry Pakistan’s flag to the summit of 8,611 meters high peak. This initiative will promote women empowerment and also raise awareness about global warming and climate changes.

During the ceremony SCO and Samina Baig paid tribute to Muhammad Ali Sadpara, the mountaineer who disappeared attempting to become the first Pakistani to scale the ‘Killer Mountain’ in winter. Commenting on the said incident she said. “Mountaineering has always been regarded as a merciless endeavour and supreme test of human endurance. My spirits are high and I seek prayers of my well wishers for accomplishing this challenge.”

Special Communications Organization (SCO) is proud to sponsor Pakistan’s first female mountaineer Samina Baig for her attempt to climb K-2. For the first time, a Muslim woman is going to make history by climbing the second largest peak of the world. Being the first Pakistani woman mountaineer going on such an expedition that guarantees to change the image of Pakistani female mountaineers in the world.

Samina Baig is a Pakistani high-altitude mountaineer. Born in Gilgit-Baltistan, at the age of 21, Samina Baig became the first Muslim Pakistani woman to climb Mount Everest and the seven summits. She has been awarded with the Pride of Performance by the Government of Pakistan. She plans to carry the Pakistan’s flag to the summit of the 8,611 meters high K-2 peak as a sign of women empowerment and to raise awareness about global warming and climate change.

“I’m thrilled and grateful to be partnering with SCO for my upcoming K-2 Dream Expedition 2021. SCO has been incredibly supportive throughout my career so far. I’ll be representing them with pride on my mountaineering expedition and making the impossible -possible together.” said Samina Baig.

SCO ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF ONLINE PAINTING COMPETITION – 2020  

Special Communications Organization (SCO) is pleased to announce the winners of SCO Online Painting Competition 2020. The online competition was called in April 2020 amid COVID-19 restriction. It was aimed to unveil the artistic talent of the people of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) regions by engaging them in creative activity during the Coronavirus lockdown.

SCO had an overwhelming response this year and received more than 3000 entries from AJ&K, GB and all over Pakistan. It was a themed contest on ‘Flora and Fauna of AJ&K and GB’. The competition had three groups for school, college and university students of AJ&K & GB while the fourth group was general public (not age-bound). In addition, to the selected top winners, consolation prizes were also offered to encourage the participants. Moreover all the participants in this competition will receive participation certificates.

The best 100 paintings were shortlisted and judged by a panel of professional known artists and art educators. Painting and photography competitions are an integral part of SCO’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities that were initiated in 2019. Besides painting competition, SCO’s online photography competition 2020 results will be announced soon. SCO’s CSR strategy primarily focuses on the wellbeing of the community, most notably the youth and educational sectors. Recent initiatives like establishment of Community Centres, Software Technology Park, Relief in internet packages and Plantation Drives are some of the milestones SCO achieved in 2020. Special Communications Organization (SCO) in collaboration with Bank Alfalah (BAFL) today announced the launch of S-Paisa Mobile Wallet, offering affordable and convenient mobile money solutions all over Pakistan and in Azad Jammu & Kashmir through a handy mobile wallet in SCO Alfa app.

     SCO has well-established distribution channels, experience as it exists in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) over four decades and through recent partnership with Bank Alfalah it has strengthened its mobile financial services foot print.

     Commenting on this new revolution, DG SCO, Maj Gen Ali Farhan HI (M) said “We believe that everyone can benefit from having digital convenience and affordable access to mobile financial services in particular to help them take control of a very important aspect of their lives – their personal finances.   • Ehsaas Kafalat Program Through S-Paisa.   In 2018, Government of Pakistan assigned task to SCO for cash disbursement under Benazir Income Support Program (Now Ehsaas Kafaalat Program). SCO and University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir Collaborate  to Set up First Software Technology Park and Incubation Center at AJ&K

Special Communications Organization (SCO) and University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (UAJ&K) have entered into intent of corporation to jointly establish the first AJ&K Software Technology Park and Incubation Center at UAJ&K, Muzaffarabad.

In this regard, a signing ceremony was held at Special Communications Organization today. The ceremony was attended by DG SCO, Major General Ali Farhan, HI (M), Vice Chancellor (UAJ&K), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi and other senior officials.

As part of the cooperation, UAJ&K will provide physical space, while SCO will manage funding for the project. SCO will also provide state of the art infrastructure facilities along with Optical Fiber board fast Internet connectivity. Through the Software Technology Park, Computer and IT graduates will have the opportunity to promote their expertise in the field of software development and connect with the global market. Similarly, the Incubation Center will enable students to excel in entrepreneur, innovations and research. This cooperation will be a great initiative for development of AJ&K region, and will encourage youth to be more innovative and creative in the IT field.

Recently, SCO has also established the first ever software technology park of Gilgit, which was inaugurated by the Chief of Army Staff at Konodas, Gilgit.

These initiatives are destined to contribute towards the development of two regions.

Dates Extended for SCO Photography Competition-2020

Due to heavy rains and bad weather conditions in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit Baltistan, Special Communications Organization (SCO) has decided to extend the submission deadline for entries to its Photography competition to 12 October 2020. The decision has been made due to the amount of requests and the fabulous sunshine that has been forecasted for the coming days.

The photography competition is an integral part of SCO’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. In 2019, SCO conducted the first-ever exhibition under the theme ‘My Land, My People’ at Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA).

Additional Secretary and Senior Joint Secretary MOIT&T visited HQ Special Communications Organization

Additional Secretary Mr. Sher Afgan Khan and Senior Joint Secretary Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom (MoIT&T) Mr. Taha Bughti visited SCO on 7 Aug 2020. On arrival, a briefing was given to the officials about SCO including SCO’s initiatives for Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) during COVID 19 Pandemic, ongoing and planned projects and laying off 820 Km optical fiber cable from Khunjrab to Rawalpindi under CPEC framework, in Phase 1 and on proposed phase-II of the project.

Later on the Additional Secretary and Senior Joint Secretary visited Pak China Data center and NGMS building and appreciated the modern facilities available with SCO.

SCO BRINGS ACADEMIA ON A PLATFORM

Another remarkable initiative by SCO, a productive online session was organized by HEC on SCO’s request in which Vice-Chancellors of renowned universities participated. They discussed problems faced by students regarding online classes in AJ&K and GB. DG SCO shared the initiatives so far taken by SCO including establishment of 12 FREE IT community centers in GB and AJ&K for students. He stated that IT parks, Incubation Centers and GPON (Fibre to Home) services projects have started on fast track basis in both regions. Free DSL connections are provided to LUMS students in AJ&K and GB. Apart from other issues highlighted by the participants, Honourable Acting Vice Chancellor Muzaffarabad University of Science & Technology (MUST), Professor Dr. Maqsood Ahmed requested DG SCO for provision of high speed internet connections each at MUST Campus Bhimber and Palandri on subsidized rates. Furthermore, he also requested dedicated point to point links between MUST campuses at Mirpur, Bhimber and Palandri for subsequent utilization as University Intranet. As per the commitment, the project was taken as a challenge and same has been achieved within 24 hours by team of officers, engineers and field operators of SCO. Honourable Acting Vice Chancellor MUST thanked and appreciated SCO for its quick and timely response. He said this arrangement will greatly facilitate MUST administration and students during current COVID 19 situation in the country

S-Paisa partners with Bank Alfalah for Prime Minister’s Ehsaas Kafalat Program in AJ&K and GB

Special Communications Organization (SCO), joined hands with Bank Alfalah as a payment solution provider under Prime Minister’s Ehsaas Kafalat Program in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). With this contractual partnership, beneficiaries under the program will be able to collect cash via biometric verification through SCO’s mobile financial service “S Paisa”.

           The disbursement of cash assistance to the deserving families under PM Ehsaas Kafalat Program is underway across the country including AJ&K and GB. Under the program, through biometric verification, a sum of twelve thousand rupees (Rs.12000/-) each will be disbursed among poor families affected by the ongoing lock-down in the wake of Coronavirus pandemic. Distribution of relief package through S-Paisa retail channels is already in full swing across AJ&K and GB since 9 April 2020 with so far more than 30,000 deserving, poor, and needy families have received the payment.

     For the smooth distribution of payment under PM Ehsaas Kafalat Program to each family, the government has developed over 70 campsites in AJ&K and around 90 Campsites in GB where payment of relief package is being managed.

Special precautionary measures are also taken by SCO to protect the people from the Coronavirus at the campsites and the dedicated staff is transparently distributing cash by performing standard preventive sanitization activities. No complaints of mismanagement were received from any location and the public was happy with the overall arrangements.

Relief package through “S-Paisa” gets underway in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan under Prime Minister’s Minister’s Ehsaas Kafalat Program

Special Communications Organization (SCO), the largest telecom service provider in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), has started cash disbursement through its financial service “S-Paisa” under Prime Minister’s Ehsaas Kafalat program.  In this regard, payment of relief package is being given at the government’s specified areas (Campsites) through bio-metric verification in 73 locations of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and 87 locations in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Under this program, due to Coronavirus lockdown, the deserving families will receive Rs. 12000/- for 4 months. Keep in mind that under Prime Minister’s Ehsaas Kafalat program, SCO is providing free of cost financial assistance through S-Paisa in collaboration with Bank Alfalah in AJ&K and GB. Till date, over 20,000 beneficiaries have received amount through this program

SCO is already distributing payments to beneficiaries in AJ&K and GB under Benazir Income Support Program (Now Ehsaas Kafalat Program). Through S-paisa, SCO has enabled beneficiaries to register and get their disbursements by bringing financial services to the local corner shop and developed a cash distributing solution for the people of far-flung areas where banks and other financial institutions have no access.

SCO ANNOUNCES COVID-19 RELIEF PACKAGE FOR AJ&K AND GB SUBSCRIBERS

Special Communications Organization (SCO), the leading telecom operator in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) announced SCO COVID – 19 Relief Package for the subscribers to help stay connected during Corona Virus pandemic.

During this unprecedented time, SCO is taking multiple measures to facilitate its valued subscribers by ensuring uninterrupted telecom services.

In this regard, Daily relief package for AJ&K and GB subscribers is being announced with free on-net 30 minutes, 100 SMS and 100 MBs data for the month of April 2020. The endowment has been introduced with the intent of connecting people as they stay at home amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Additionally, to improve and expand online learning resources and to meet the growing demand from parents, teachers, and students, data bundles have been doubled without any additional cost. Students package for SNET users of AJ&K and GB has also been made free of cost for the month of April 2020.

Visit of Ambassador of Peoples Republic of China, Mr. Yao Jing, to HQ SCO

Ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China, Mr. Yao Jing visited Headquarters Special Communications Organization (SCO) today. On his arrival, he was received by Director General SCO Major General Ali Farhan, HI (M).

The main purpose of the visit was to broaden areas of bilateral cooperation in the field of telecom with special emphasis on Pak-China OFC connectivity by exploring new avenues of collaboration between the two countries. During the meeting, technological uplift of remote areas of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and facilitation of telecom connectivity of China with neighboring countries of Pakistan was also discussed.

           During the course of his visit, the Chinese Ambassador was given a briefing on the updated status of the Pak-China OFC Project executed by SCO. The honorable Ambassador lauded the efforts of SCO on successful completion of the flagship ICT project executed under difficult terrain and weather conditions much earlier than its planned timelines.

            He was also briefed about the salient features of Pak-China OFC Phase -2 Project and its current status. The Ambassador expressed his keenness in the project.

Later, he visited Pak China Telecom Center and was impressed by the professional standards being maintained by the organization.

SCO Conducts Tree plantation drive in sweet homes Islamabad

Special Communications Organization (SCO), the largest telecom network of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan has organized a tree plantation drive at Pakistan Sweet Homes Islamabad. The campaign was led by SCO brand ambassadors, Mr. Usman Mukhtar renowned actor, Ms. Maryam Mujtaba, a first female commercial pilot from AJ&K and people with disabilities from respective NGOs. Saplings of Pine, Jasmine, Guava, and Mulberry trees were planted.

Patron in Chief Pakistan Sweet Homes Mr. Zammurrad Khan and senior officials of SCO were also present.  Children of sweet homes planted saplings with an aim to make a clean & green Pakistan. The event was held as a part of SCO cooperate social responsibility initiative-Islamabad Chapter, through which trees are being planted to mitigate the effects of climate change

SCO through this drive bolstered their focus on creating awareness and a sense of responsibility among society for preserving and nurturing the environment. Last year, over a million trees were planted under the “Sarsabz-O-Shadab” campaign in AJ&K and GB region.

SCO and KIU partner to set up first IT Park and Technology Incubation Center at GB

Special Communications Organization (SCO) and Karakoram International University (KIU) will jointly establish the first Information Technology Park and Technology Incubation Center at Karakoram University in Gilgit Baltistan. For This purpose, all funds will be generated by the SCO, while KIU will provide the physical space. SCO will also provide state of the art networking facilities and the fastest Internet connectivity. Through the IT Park, Computer and IT graduates will have the opportunity to promote their expertise in the field of software development and connect with the global market.

      The students appreciated the participation of the SCO & KIU for the establishment of an IT Park and Technology Incubation Center at the University of Karakoram. This IT Park will be a great initiative for the development of the youth of the region and will encourage them in the technology business.

SCO announces relief packages for affected areas of AJ&K and GB

Glaciers and land sliding from recent spell of torrential rains and heavy snowfall caused severe damage to the Telecommunication system in Azad Jammu &Kashmir(AJ&K) and GilgitBaltistan (GB).Land sliding in Azad Kashmir damaged the Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) connecting Muzaffarabad with Taobat via Athmuqam, Dudhnial,Sharda and Kelin Neelum Valley, GappaGali and Rashian Top in Leepa Valley,Kohala and Bara Kot in Muzafarabad Region and Chikar&SudhanGali between Bagh and Garhidupatta. Similarly due to earthquake and land sliding, OFC damaged at Doian, Jaglot, Thalichi, Tattapani (Rai Kot), Astore in Gilgit region and Sanochal&Sassi near Kachura, Durando, Shangas and Jullnallah in Baltistan region caused breakdown of telecommunication facilities.

SCO’s dedicated teams promptly responded to this natural calamity and worked around the clock to restore the communications. SCO restored the fiber cable during the most difficult weather and made it possible to connect the affectees to the rest of the country and making relief and rehabilitation support to reach effectively and smoothly.

DGSCO Major General Ali Farhan HI(M) has expressed heartfelt condolences to affectees of Neelum, Leepa, and other victims in Azad Kashmir.He said “SCO stands with the aggrieved in this hour of grief and is fully cognizant of its responsibilities”.

Aimed at extending relief and assistance to the  affectees of  Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit BaltistanSCO has announced relief SCOM package which includes 5000 free SCOM to SCO Family Minutes and 5000 SMS.Through this offer, people will be able to keep in touch with their loved ones during this time of trouble. IG C&IT INAUGURATED NGMS DR SITE AT SPECIAL COMMUNICATIONS ORGANIZATION SCO

IG C&IT Lt Gen Ali Amir Awan HI (M) visited Special Communications Organization today. On his arrival, he was received by Director General SCO Major General Ali Farhan, Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military). CEO ZTE Mr. Wang Lei was also present at the occasion. IG C&IT chaired the briefing at the SCO where he was briefed regarding the ongoing projects including Next Generation Mobile System (NGMS) and Pak China Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) project.

Later he inaugurated NGMS Disaster Recovery Site and was given a detailed briefing on the facilities available at the site. The IG appreciated the work done by SCO and its management. He also expressed his satisfaction over the professional standards maintained by the organization. He further said that SCO is working to connect rural areas through fiber and wireless solutions to make networks ready for 5G, the roadmap to digital transformation requires collaboration between all parties, including vendors like ZTE and other service providers.

PRESIDENT DR ARIF ALVI INAUGURATES PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION ORGANIZED BY SCO

Special Communications Organization (SCO) in collaboration with the Pakistan National Council of Arts held a photography exhibition today. The exhibition featured top 100 photographs under the theme of ‘My Land – My People’ capturing the beautiful North Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan (AJ&K & GB). The photographs were selected from a pool of over 2000 photographs received by SCO from all over the country.

The event was inaugurated by President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi as Chief Guest.
He felicitated SCO for coming out with a novel idea of ‘My Land – My People’ which proved to be a platform for expression and a projection of talent of our aspiring youth, our natural beauty, cultures, tradition and history through art. He said, “I could see the vision and hope with which this initiative was established. I wish continued success to SCO in their endeavours to promote our youth and Pakistan’s soft image to the world”.

Photographs depicting landscape, folk heritage, traditional architecture, and people busy in the routine life were displayed in the exhibition. These colourful photographs are the scenes of real life from the far flung areas of AJ&K and GB.

DG Special Communications Organization (SCO) Major General Ali Farhan, HI (M) while addressing the participants said, “The primary purpose of this initiative is to create healthy and conducive environment to groom and explore the youthful talent of these remote areas and to showcase it at National level”.

SCO, a leading integrated telecom operator in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan has been actively playing a role in various cultural activities and also creating healthy and conducive environment to groom and explore the talent from these remote areas.

SCO pavilion opened for public at Sir Syed Memorial Complex on  19 November 2019 having different stalls of regional food and handicrafts representing traditional culture of the AJ&K and GB. Different artists from AJ&K and GB are also participating to showcase their talent.

In the grand opening of IAF 2019, high profile dignitaries visited SCO pavilion and appreciated SCO for promoting talent from far flung areas of AJ&K and GB at National level. The stalls were spectated by large number of guests visiting the IAF over the last 3 days. The visitors thoroughly enjoyed the various engaging activities organized by SCO.

As part of IAF 2019, SCO has also announced “Video Making Contest” with the theme of “My Land My People” to encourage talent of AJ&K and GB. SCO will facilitate the competition by short listing the winners. The format is kept very simple, it’s an open competition for all ages. A group comprising students and faculty members from Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) visited Special Communications Organization on a study tour under Youth Engagement Initiative Program. The guests were warmly welcomed by DG SCO Major General Ali Farhan HI (M) and higher officials. The group was given brief on present and future communication and information technology projects in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The students were told that talent appreciation activities are one of the regular features of SCO’s operations. These activities are aimed at promoting the local talent especially youth from far flung areas in the field of education, sports, art and culture. As part of this effort, SCO recently held a painting competition titled “My People – My Land” and provided a platform for remote region talent of AJ&K and GB to showcase both nationally and internationally. The competition for photography has also been conducted under the same theme and the exhibition is being organized at the national level.

First Female Commercial Pilot from Azad Jammu & Kashmir is Now SCO’s Brand Ambassador

Special Communications Organization (SCO), a telecom operator in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Balitistan has appointed First Female Commercial Pilot from Azad Jammu & Kashmir – Ms Maryam Mujtaba as its Brand Ambassador.

The contract signing ceremony was held at HQ SCO Rawalpindi.

Maj Gen Ali Farhan HI(M) DG SCO and other officials of SCO were present on the occasion.

Ms Maryam Mujtaba is the first Kashmiri female pilot, currently flying with Pakistan International Airline (PIA). She obtained her Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and after completing the subsequent flying hours was promoted as a first officer on Airbus 320 in PIA.

Commenting on her association with SCO, Ms Maryam said, “I’m excited to come on board as the Brand Ambassador for SCO, an organization committed to provide quality telecom services in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. In addition, SCO is actively involved in women empowerment and healthy community engagement activities.”

Ms Maryam Mujtaba will be engaged in various media activities and events to endorse and promote SCO’s promotional activities in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. By joining the prestigious roster of famous women such as   Ms Samina Baig, Ms Maryam Mujtaba will become the first Kashmiri female to represent SCO, globally.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO CELEBRITIES

Hassan Sadpara (Late) Mountaineer – Skardu.   Hassan Sadpara, the celebrity mountaineer was given financial assistance of Rs 100,000 for his treatment during ailment.

Chacha Abdur Rehman (Late) – Goma. An amount of Rs 100,000 was given to lone widow of renowned Chacha Abdur Rehman (Tamgha-i-Shujaat ). Chacha Abdur Rehman guided Pak Army troops to Siachen in 1982 and 1984.

Painting Exhibition.  

On 24 July 2019 Painting Exhibition was organized by SCO at PNCA. The event was inaugurated by Mrs Samina Alvi as a Chief Guest. Best 100 paintings were featured in the PNCA Gallery. The aim of the event was to promote the local talent of AJ&K and GB at National Level.

SPONSORSHIP OF KASHMIR TOURIST & CULTURE FESTIVAL

Azad Jammu and Kashmir will hold a five day Kashmir festival in Muzaffarabad from 27 Sep to 1 Oct 2019. The nation’s first ever “Pakistan International Paragliding Cup 2019” will be an amusing sight to witness as the colorful paragliders from around the world will float in the skies of Kashmir. Furthermore, “Kashmir Cricket League” will carry forth the tradition of cricket bringing people together. This is an iconic event on the national festival calendar that marks the delightful tradition of Kashmiri culture. This event aims to attract almost 100,000 strong audience of indigenous and non-indigenous people from across the Globe. SCO is planning to participate in the event in shape of sponsorship.
